SmartBoards - OnTheMarket's dynamic QR codes generate leads for agents

OnTheMarket has inked a deal with Kremer Signs to supply agents with Smartboards to be added to For Sale signs - they will “generate a new type of lead” claims the agency.

The Smartboard is a slip that can be attached to the board of a newly instructed property and features a unique QR - this connect agents, buyers and sellers.

When the QR code is scanned the consumer is taken directly to the exact details of that property on the OTM website.

From here, the consumer can read full property details, call the agent using the phone icon which appears, or complete a contact form which is forwarded to the agent. When this lead form is completed, a confirmation SMS is sent to the consumer to confirm contact from the selling agent has been requested.

OTM says that by combining QR code technology with the traditional For Sale board, consumers can quickly access the property details of a listing with ease, allowing for more potential sales enquiries to be generated.

It is believed that Smartboards are a particularly effective lead generation tool in areas with high footfall and can also support with generating more valuation enquiries as more passive passers-by can also engage with the Smartboards.

Agents can also access analytics via a dashboard to keep track of activity such as the number of board scans and the details of leads which have been generated.

The launch comes after a successful three-month trial at the end of last year which saw a set of OnTheMarket agents introduce Smartboards, supplied by Kremer Signs.

As part of the partnership, OnTheMarket full-tariff agents receive 15 Smartboards per branch for free, along with preferential rates for future Smartboards.

OTM chief executive Jason Tebb says: “As technology continues to be an increasingly important part of how people search for their next home, this partnership embraces that consumer behaviour and is another example of how we’re introducing best-in-class products to add value to our offering and ensure we’re supporting our agents.”

And Gary Gosney, sales and marketing director of Kremer Signs, adds: “As well as supporting agents in generating sales enquiries, Smartboards can help with winning more instructions as they’re an example of how agents can show they’re differentiating themselves from the competition in ways they market properties.”

    Hasn't this been tried before?

Not sure how useful QR codes really are. People have got more used to them during the pandemic, when they've often been necessary to order food and drinks at restaurants and pubs, but I've always found them a bit of a palaver. Not especially easy to use and a bit cumbersome.

But, in principle, the idea is not a bad one if the tech is up to the job.

    Thank you for your comments!

We did launch this product nearly 10 years ago believe it or not, but the technology at the time was too advance for the mobile devices being used, and not everybody knew what a QR Code actually was.

Off the back of the pandemic and the introduction of the governments Track & Trace system, people are a lot more accustom to QR Codes and how to interact with them, as well as smartphones being better equip to easily engage with the codes. So there really has never been a better time to introduce QR Codes to your boards.

As well as the above, the biggest change this time around, is that they are Dynamic QR Codes, which means through our online platform you can change the URL as many times as you want to specific property details on your website, which means the Smartboards themselves can be used many times, rather than being a static QR that is for one time use.

There are also many other features available including scan, lead and call analytics generated by the Smartboard, as well as SMS push notifications that can be sent to the end user, which puts your contact details directly into their phone. We also have a Smartboard Installer app, which can be used by your board man (or the agent themselves if they erect their own boards) which allows you to assign the Smartboards on site of install to the properties URL, which makes the process incredibly user friendly.

This new product really does link the traditional 'For Sale' board with the new age Proptech marketing world for estate agents.

OnTheMarket going on as if they invented the QR code. This is nothing more than an attempt to drive traffic to their website and rationalize their existence.

Our boards have a magic series of numbers on which when input into a mobile phone put you in direct conversation with an agent! What's more, if the property isn't right for them the agent has an opportunity to record the feedback, report to client and explore other business opportunities resulting from the call.
