Connells Help to Buy complaint informally resolved by ASA

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has informally resolved a complaint made against Connells.

The case focused on a Connells Rightmove listing which had a headline asking price of £280,000.

Further down the advert, additional text stated: "** The price shown is 80% of the full purchase price (from £350,000) when using the HELP TO BUY Scheme".

A complainant subsequently challenged whether the use of ‘£280,000’ was misleading, because the actual purchase price was considerably more expensive if purchased not using the Help to Buy Scheme.

After being contacted by the ASA, Connells agreed to state the full marketing price and explain the Help to Buy price further down the page in the ‘Key features’ section.

“Because Connells agreed to state the full marketing price, we considered no further action was required and closed the case informally,” said an ASA spokesperson.
