UK agents given the thumbs up when it comes to value for money

A recent survey conducted by comparison website GetAgent found that traditional high street agents have been given a firm thumbs up by sellers who have sold their homes in the past year.
The study of more than 5,000 sellers found that of those who used a traditional agent, some 69% felt the fee they paid represented good value for money.
When they were asked to rate the service level provided while selling (out of 10), the average score from those sellers surveyed was a seven.
The lowest commission fees of any nation in the EU
The above findings follow on from previous research by GetAgent – explored in this article we wrote in April – that UK estate agents actually charge the lowest commission of any country in the European Union, going against the perception that it’s very expensive to sell a home in Britain.
In fact, the research revealed that the average commission fee in the UK sits at only 1.2%, below the typical fees charged in the Republic of Ireland and Denmark (both below 2%), and comfortably below France, Malta and Cyprus (where average agency fees are 5%). In Romania, meanwhile, they are as high as 6%.
Agents need to promote their great value
There is a perception that it costs a lot to sell a home in the UK, but the research above suggests this isn’t the case – and that, for the excellent service they receive, consumers are actually getting something of a bargain.
What’s more, in the majority of cases, sellers believe the fee they have paid to traditional agents represents excellent value for money.
But agents probably need to be less shy in shouting out about how cost-effective their services are when it comes to getting homes sold.
When seeking to attract new clients or keeping hold of existing ones, you should reinforce the high levels of customer service and value for money on offer from most traditional agents. You can point to all the things you offer your clients for a comparatively low commission fee and, in doing this, can increase your chances of achieving further instructions.
