Two of the main property portals have launched new features.
Propertyfinder has unveiled a ‘Das Kapital Kalculator’ which allows users to see if it is cheaper to rent or to buy in a particular area.
It is available on www.propertyfinder.com/revolution and can be used by agents to help guide applicants in their choices, using a property comparison calculator that displays properties in their chosen area – both for sale and for rent – in their price range.
Meanwhile, Rightmove has launched a ‘widget’ which allows users to post their property searches and results on blogs and social networking pages, for example on Facebook.
The widget means that people checking their Facebook profiles twice a day will be continually updated as to properties – for rent or sale – that fit their criteria.

Paul - A more random comment I am yet to stumble across. Neither this article or the comments before yours contain the slightest mention FTB's...so why...??
First time buyers forget it, they have gone for ever! MR brown and his EU cronies do not want EU citizens to own property. In three more generations the majority of UK (if there still is a UK, oh no its already gone its England Scotland and Wales I forgot) will be in rented accommodation along the with the rest of Europe. get real, the FTB market has gone; forever !
News? - launched weeks ago.
Oh, joy - new widgets!
These ones tell people whether it's cheaper to rent than buy.
When will we invent a widget that 'sells the benefits' of owning over renting?
Oh... we did... years ago.
They were called "Estate Agents" or something...
Now they're all but extinct - replaced by those who seem to act in the interests of the buyer, not the seller.
