FindaProperty has partnered with Google on the launch of its latest product, the controversial Street View.

Street View can be accessed on FindaProperty simply by clicking a tab.

Street View is a new feature for Google Maps that enables users to view and navigate 360-degree street-level imagery of UK cities and towns. However, Google has been inundated with complaints that people’s faces and car number plates are shown, while there are concerns that by showing army and police buildings, national security could be compromised.

For property finders, the service allows local neighbourhoods to be checked out in detail without physically having to visit them.

Chris Boorman, head of product development for FindaProperty, said: “We are delighted to be partnered with Google for this launch. Street View takes FindaProperty to new heights.

“It’s an amazing tool that will allow our users to see a property and its surroundings and help them get a real feel for the area.

“We believe that Street View is set to become part of everyday life in a very short space of time, and FindaProperty is at the forefront of this development, providing further support to our member agents and giving them access to new and emerging technology.”

Street View is available on FindaProperty properties located in major UK towns and cities including London, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, York, Newcastle, Southampton, Bristol, Swansea and Glasgow. Other UK areas are expected to go live at a later date.

Google insist that they will not be constantly filming streets. A balaclava and drawn curtains should be sufficient to maintain privacy in most cases.

Quite true Gary. The reason for that is that FindAProperty can only locate the location from the address given and its not accurate enough. In addition Street View is 3 dimensional so you may want the initial view to be directly looking at the property rather than onto the street or at an angle obstructed by some trees for instance. The only way to do this is to enable you, the agent, to set the exact location and view angle yourself. We do this in estateCRM so that on the agencies website the view of the property is exactly as set by the agent in the software.

Very good idea, but they need to work on it again, as when you click on a property, then click street view, it doesnt show the correct property, it just comes up on any house in that road.

Google Streetview is an excellent tool for national online Estate Agents. No need to visit properties - just take the image from Streetview.

Streetview is a brilliant mapping tool. Unfortunately it only covers a few locations at present. For example Bournemouth is not mapped yet although I did spot the tell tale Google Car complete with periscope camera on Wareham Quay only last week. Here's a good tip for featuring in a typical streetview scene. Dress up as a fluffy chicken and stand on the side of the road waving when the Google camera car passes!

Its difficult to underestimate how important Street View will become for buyers and renters. Estate Solutions has already added the functionality to the software: estateCRM, and is implementing Street View in all Estate & Letting agency websites. Along with usual property details, image slide shows, floor plans etc the visitor will be able to take a walk around the area, look at the property from all angles and even look at the local points of interest such as schools and parks which will be marked on the maps.
