Well, they charge for everything else they do, why not add to the bundle! They charge, the public pay. Its foolishness but most clients selling homes do not have the insight we have, sadly. The cost of an AML check if completed by a company is on average around £3.50, their profit, although not transparent, will be probably 4 or 5 times that. We can criticise but its an easy way of making a profit.

Wealth over health! Mmm.... one of my staff tested positive, we closed the office the minute we knew and I asked all my staff and ourselves to get tested if they could or self isolate for 14 days. Due to previous lockdown we have sourced telecoms and laptops for this exact scenario. I did not expect my staff to work at all if they have covid or if they felt they could not work. My husband tested positive, I didn't but we have ran our office from home since 14th October. Our clients have been understanding and, if possible, have been conducting viewings. We have lost instructions, yes but my staff, my clients and my health comes first. I understand that you may believe a lock door policy works but you may still be passing the virus to other staff members, their families and the list goes on. We ALL have a responsibility to others, we all have to protect one another. Jeff, you could have set your agency up with one or two laptops where staff could work from home, you have had time... travelling to and from work may cause them to spread the virus... Preparation is the key word. Look after our staff and protect them.

When I see the varying basic fees quoted above I am completely gobsmacked! I am in Devon and I have been quoted £1425.00 plus vat - the minimum amount for sales and lettings. I had the excel explanation telling me how much I will lose if I leave them, however, I advised them that we all maybe small, medium or large companies but they depend upon our goodwill. From what I see hear they have lost that goodwill. Zoopla charges half of Rightmove but provide the same service. If we all stood together and moved from Rightmove to the other portals we would all, on average save ourselves over £1000.00 a month, £12,000 a year and our blood pressure when they increase their payments yet again!. With the threat of business being adversely affected due to the Coronavirus I will have to make that decision sooner, rather than later. Best wishes to all in our industry over the next few months, stay safe, stay positive.

I will wait to see you fall on your sword Mr Evans! Business is business BUT when you have Countrywide conveyancers in a chain, everyone groans, without exception. They are slow, do not communicate and lose paperwork regularly. The "hub", as they call it, will be online for their clients to view but someone still has to input the information!!! I say no more and wish them luck.

James, ditto! Crying over spilt milk! These agents took this course of action and not once did their moral compass kick in and tell them that by joining OTM with the stipulation to drop another portal would mean the destruction of another company! I remember a wise old owl stating in a meeting of agents that to join OTM would be financial suicide... you weren't wrong Mr W. How can agents that have signed these agreements now be back on Zoopla? but there are flocking back!

Well said Chris. I have never used this and always wondered how certain agents manage to increase their postionings on Rightmove stats etc. Any agent of worth does not need to do this, they just have to work a bit harder on marketing their properties and provide the service their clients sign up for

Spencer, Their business model was flawed from the beginning. They promised the earth for only £200 a month less that Zoopla. the board of OTM had enough experience to know that it takes a least 3 to 5 years to build and online portal and public perception of that portal. We are not moaning, we are stating facts. I have nothing to moan about, I didn't touch OTM with a barge pole! Simples

Simply, I can see from the above comments that the agents moving to OTM and dropping Zoopla are trying to justify what they all know, at the time, was morally wrong! We were invited, as a company, by other agents and OTM representative to a meeting, where OTM agents attempted to persuade us to move to OTM as a group! I had numerous calls from OTM representatives inviting me to other similar meetings, which I refused. One meeting was enough to make me realise that trying to destroy Zoopla was morally and professionally wrong and now it would appear to be legally wrong too! How many of the OTM agents who attended these meetings own up to it, I wonder! And how many have jumped ship and are back with Zoopla? Most in Exeter! I was talked down to by these OTM member agents( I wont name the companies) and told my opinion didn't matter as I was a small independent - well perhaps they shouldn't shout down the so called little man! If AM are writing to their member agents are they telling them to keep their mouths shut about these numerous meetings that occurred, I wonder? Isn't honesty the best policy?

Some agents are doing it everywhere in Exeter, every possible piece of council land on a main route is being targeted. Just ugly boards plonked in the grass shows desperation to most members of the public. I am not convinced it helps the agent at all infact clientele in Exeter are a little more savvy than that and would prefer an agent with a bit more class!

Been there done that, last year! It was a nightmare for as searches were taking upwards of 12 weeks instead of 2 weeks, due to poor management of staff in these crucial departments. The only thing we could do, and a number of agents did this, was to contact the office weekly asking how long specific searches were likely to take and then reporting this back to our clients. Our clients then knew we were being proactive and we kept the chains alive. Communication was the key. Good Luck Wiltshire agents.

I know I am still a Zoopla/Primelocation agent but I would never close the door on OTM. We need to stop squabbling and do what is best for our own businesses. I think Mr Rook is doing exactly that, taking care of his livelihood. Competition is a healthy thing and can be used to advantage if you are with different portals! So boys, whether you are a Capulet or a Montague, if you are with OTM or not, stop digging at each other, its not pretty and its wasting valuable energy which is better spent building a strong business.

Like Rob Davie, I reiterate his concerns. As a small agency we are No 1 for the least amount of Withdrawals, Price Reductions and Fall throughs out of 132 agents in the South West (Zoopla figures for named postcode area), showing we keep our sales together, price correctly and keep our clients happy. How can this be shown on a comparison site?
