A property firm claims it’s seen a 75% rise in the number of landlords enquiring about selling up.
There’s been at least a two-year trend of increased landlord sales, accelerating since May this year and the implementation of the Renters Rights Act.
This is according to We Buy Any Home, whose chief executive Elliot Castle comments: “Smaller landlords have been dealt blow after blow in recent years.
“For those who rent out a handful of properties, with squeezed margins and rising mortgage rates, the new legislation is undoubtedly causing many to question if it’s feasible to continue.
“We have seen enquiries steadily rising, most notably in the second half of last year when the Renters’ Rights Act was being finalised.
“Since then it has remained at a higher level and peaked in June, the month after the new legislation came into effect. We don’t anticipate it decreasing anytime soon.“
Separate data from estate agency Hamptons – part of the Connells Group – shows a slowdown in landlord sales in the UK.
Even so, some 9.2% of homes listed for sale last month – June 2026 – had previously been rented out.
More ominously, the agency says 51% of homes listed for sale by landlords in 2025 failed to sell – and that figure rose to 60% for flats.
