A Sussex lettings and estate agency has delved into its past for its latest apprentice.
Mishon Mackay has recently hired Oliver Sumners, the son of one of the first ever Mishon Mackay employees, Guy Sumners.
The agency was founded by Alex Mackay and Glenn Mishon in 1987 and the team has now grown to 57 staff.
Guy, who now runs an airport taxi service, said: “Alex has taught me everything he knows about estate agency, and he taught me his way. In the early Mishon Mackay days, we worked long hours and we worked hard and smart – and it paid off.
“The values, and techniques that Alex shared with me over the years have stood me in very good stead ever since. Applying his very high standards of service in any sales environment makes you stand out from the rest and Mishon Mackay would not be where it is now without the dedication and commitment of Alex and Glenn over the years.”
Looking to the future of the property market, Oliver suggested that new digital technologies will improve the efficiency of estate and lettings agencies.
He said: “The pandemic has done wonders for pushing forward the use of new technologies or proptech.
“A good example of this is a tool like Giraffe360, where we can use it to conduct formal and consistent virtual viewings. Going forward, tools like these will become a common option that is offered to applicants, as well as an in-person viewing.”
Alex added: “It is important that we invest in the next generation and keep our business heading in the right direction with leadership and continuity.
“I would recommend anyone entering the business, whether in sales or lettings, should ensure their employer has a good training programme to ensure you can attain the necessary qualifications, plus receive the best guidance and support in the industry.”
