Christopher Whatcott has confirmed to EAT that he has closed Express-EPCs to new business, for the time being at least.

He said that our story on Monday was incorrect, in that it “suggested that we are still trading and accepting new orders”.

He said that while an order was emailed out, after he had earlier said he had closed the business to new orders, this was an old order.

He said the customer in question had ordered an EPC but it had not been carried out.

Whatcott said: “The customer concerned was advised that we can refund them or fulfil the EPC order. The customer chose the latter and we initiated the auction for that one order only.”

Whatcott, who allegedly owes Domestic Energy Assessors for their work, added: “We are doing all we can to restore our reputation, and factually inaccurate articles such as these aren’t helpful in the slightest.”

In October/November I received 5 emails from next day epc asking me to bid for jobs as a matter of urgency and then they never contacted me again after this.

But the format of their email was the same as Express-epc.

I am not interested in doing any work for Whatcott I just want my invoices paid so I can move on and earn a living. I was ripped off by the company who trained me and now I am being ripped off by the company I carried out work for. Its Outrageous

Companies house are involved and today I was informed that if Express EPC/Christopher Whatcott doesnt comply with their requests they would be starting criminal proceedings against him. They are already talking with their lawyers in preparation. I suggest Mr Whatcott gets over his recent birthday celebration and gets on with paying the DEAs still owed money. Maybe EAT can do a follow up and directly ask when are DEAs owed money since last June going to be paid???

Express-EPC arent taking on anymore work, do you know why that is? Its because they have changed the company name again.

EXPRESS EPC are still sending out offers of "bidding" for EPC instructions.
Of note is that some of these "jobs" were emailed out last week. And perhaps no takers? The institute are aware of at least three DEAs that were emailed this same instruction again today.
These DEAs still await payment from EXPRESS EPC for EPCs carried out months ago.
    Some "neck Mr W?
Are DEAs "fighting back",at last, against non paying companies?
    We hope so.

Express-EPC are still sending out job offers!
Wake up Mr Whatcott, we arent going to do any more work for you until we have been paid for the jobs we completed in June and July.

At present, I am sending my invoice for instructions completed on behalf of Express EPC at least 2 to 3 times a week. Each time, I get an automated response which thank me for my patience.....etc. BUT STILL NO PAYMENT. Simple question to respond to Mr Whatcott, When are you going to pay????????

The Institute of Domestic Energy Assessors (IDEA) has been notified by members that they have been contacted by EXPRESS EPC to bid for EPC instructions. On the “flip side”, IDEA has received no information from our members of any payment to them from EXPRESS EPC.
    The EXPRESS EPC invitation to bid now carries this;
IMPORTANT NOTICE: If you are the successful bidder for this order we will give you additional leads that fall within a 10 mile radius of your address. These leads will be no more than 15 minutes old and are generated by our online quotation system by customers who have visited our website for an EPC quote. It is your choice how much you charge the customer and payment will usually be made to you direct on the day of the appointment. Good luck !!
This does suggest that Mr Whatcott/Express EPC ARE still “open for business” albeit that they pass the instruction on. Is this an enticing carrot for the DEA?
    Questions:
Will the DEA receive payment from EXPRESS EPC for the original instruction?
Where does this leave the home owner? Has an EPC been ordered or not?
The home owner/estate agent must be able to provide proof that the EPC has been ordered and promise of payment for the EPC made. The EPC must then be available within 28 days.
Does EXPRESS EPC provide that proof?
Confusing, to say the least. But that “confusion” could lead to the home owner/estate agent open to a fine from Trading Standards.
    As a foot note:
Mr Whatcott, when do you intend to pay these DEAs for work carried out for EXPRESS EPC?
Do you ever intend to pay those DEAs that carried out work for HIPSAVE/HIPSERVE?
Mr Whatcott, IDEA looks forward to your reply on here or to the Institute.

I can not see any renumerations in my bank statements from Express-EPC I am owed money for work completed. I think the word "alleged" in this instance is not appropriate. Mr Whatcott can you advise as to when funds are going to be released into my account please.

Companies House are aware that Express EPC are in breach of sections 82-84 of the companies Act 2006 and are also aware of the effectiveness of their registered address at Old Gloucester Street and are investigating this as we speak. So Mr Whatcott and Express EPCs hole gets even deeper

I belong to DCHI who represent EAs in Devon. As soon as the 1st auction notice from EPC-EXPRESS came out we were alerted that this was a scam operation and as a result not one of us has been ripped off by this con artist. EAs need to get together and share information in order to protect ourselves.

Watchdog only take on simple stories such as a one man band builder who cant lay a piece of roofing felt property. They havent got the bottle to tackle this mess. A company that has changed its name 4 times, moves offices and doesnt even tell Companies house where it is based. I thought as a comapny you had to have a company name plate outside your place of business.

Mr Turner, I have no qualms with you taking exception to my comments- I’m not trying to win any popularity contest on this issue. DEAs have been getting scammed throughout their short existence, The cast-iron fact is that they have been gullible enough to get taken in by Whatcott, providing him with cash/oxygen. This is the most laughable point about this entire episode. How many more times will DEAs sign up for more ‘too good to turn down’ opportunities I wonder?

Mr Kurz, i take exception at your statement :- "through idiot DEAs" I bid for local no great distance work, fairly and at a price competatave to the local market, and to give me a reasonable profit. I beleived like all others who bid, we would get paid ! That is what this is all about, NOT the rights and wrongs of reverse auctions, and the prices DEA's do or do not charge

I thought ABBE were the body who approve DEA training centers in the UK. Last time I spoke with ABBE, they were not aware of any applications from Mr Whatcott or EPC Now.net. I will make a follow up call to check.

See how quick he answers an allegation about Express EPC being closed, BUT NO ANSWERS TO WHEN THE DEAS WILL GET PAID. Mr Whatcott, What is it going to take for you to tell us when we get paid. Maybe another story solely on the DEAs who you owe money too. Just pay what you owe, and sort your life out.

The net draws in and now with companies house involved who state that the address in old gloucester street is not a serviceable address and that also the website/websites are also in breach of companies act. Christopher Whatcott is good at defending what hes doing, but he has failed to mention when he is going to pay the money he owes to the DEAs. And in all this time since the story first emerged in October, I havent heard of one DEA who has been paid what they are due. No doubt, chrisopher Whatcott will get exactly what he is due when he has to confirm a premises from where he really works from, which as we all all is the SAVI office.

There is "no alleged" about it , you owe hundreds of people money and have had a bad reputation for 2 years. I just hope that you ( Mr Whatcott)have abused so many people that its catching up with you.

Im still waiting for the day that you have improved your reputation and put your office address on your website

I look forward to being paid for outstanding invoices, EPC's carried out in June and July, or does he think that by 'closing Express EPC's' that the debts will die with it, so that he can move on at my [and other DEA's] expense?

Its a shame that the only press EPCs seem to be getting is in regards of bad practice and unpaid invoices. DEAs have, at times, been their own worse enemy in dropping prices below any decent standard.
Wish we had a Christine Milne to support the UK energy assessors.

Whatcott hasn't sent me a threatening letter (containing the most fantastic pack of lies and admissions) in over a week. Has he dropped the ball? Is he actually taking the advice I gave him in my thorough, and soon to be made public, reply? Certainly looks that way if he's genuinely ceased trading knocking out loss-making EPCs through idiot DEAs. Next we just need to deal with this Whatcott idiot who is now going to carry out DEA training. I wouldn't trust him with Ros's hand-stitched Italian purse, let alone anyones DEA training, would you? Bless you Whatcott, I honestly thought the industry had run out of idiots, then you raise your head above the parapet!
