A 40-year-old man arrested by police after morning raids on two agents in Oxford at the end of last week was released by the weekend without charge.

Papers and computers were taken in raids on Charles Lawson (Lettings) and James C Penny estate agents, and also a house last Thursday morning.

The raids by local Trading Standards officers and police are said to have followed a six-month investigation into some 50 complaints from tenants and landlords about rent and deposits.

Investigations by trading standards officers and police are continuing.

At the weekend, the Charles Lawson website was down, with a message saying this was due to non-payment. The James C Penny website says the agents were established in 2002 and offer a friendly and professional service.

And agents moan about regulation......perhaps more teeth required to clean up the "profession", little wonder EA dropping back below the status of bankers.....
