The Association of Residential Managing Agents has now made it a requirement for all its members to join a recognised ombudsman scheme.

It is recommending they join the RICS scheme – the Surveyors Ombudsman Service (SOS) – rather than the Property Ombudsman or Housing Ombudsman schemes.

ARMA chairman Brett Williams said: “It was a logical step for us to go for the SOS as nearly 50% of our members are chartered surveyors. The SOS is already handling cases relating to residential leasehold issues.”

ARMA has some 225 corporate members, managing around 850,000 units between them.
