After closing two of its 20 offices a few months ago, Yorkshire-based Hunters has opened a huge new office in Sheffield, to be run by franchisee Andrew Mills.
The former Yorkshire Bank building has taken six months to refurbish. It dates from the1920s.
Kevin Hollinrake of Hunters said: “Although we are very careful about where we would open a new office at the moment, our research showed there was a gap in the market within Sheffield."
Franchisee Andrew Mills said: “This is a great city which I know really well, and although currently the housing market is constantly reported as being in the doldrums, this won’t last forever.
“I don’t believe in sitting back and waiting for things to happen. We are going out there showing that you can sell houses in this market.”

This sounds like a good move. A local guy who knows the area well. All that is now needed is for that "pent-up demand" to be released. In the meantime, lets hope that he has an understanding bank manager or a healthy money pot!
Six months to refurbish!!!! I'm in the wrong job! bet they were paid by the day rate!
I agree with David...very brave and good luck to you (shame on Tony for wishing bad luck!). Trouble with where we are based is the bulk of agents STILL overvalue to gain instructions so the feeling Vendors receive is that things arent as bad as they really are...loads of overprices stagnant properties later they still wont reduce prices! What a shame.
We opened our business in 1990 at the depths of the last market 'adjustment'. It was a struggle but survivable with the right attitude. Listings weren't hard to come by and people were keen to listen to fresh advice. As an established agent now I'm having more problems with keeping on top of vendors aspirations.
Who in there right mind would open an estate agents now!!! very foolish move, lets see in 12 months time if they are still open
