Astonishing cost of HIPs logo
02 September 2009
How many graphic designers does it take to design one logo?
The question is prompted by the revelation that taxpayers had to fork out £22,000 for a HIP logo.
The information came to light because of a request under the Freedom of Information Act.
Communities and Local Government has spent £170,000 on new logos, including the HIP logo two years ago.
In one rebranding exercise, it spent nearly £4,000 on calling itself the Department for Communities and Local Government. Five months later it rebranded to Communities and Local Government, at a further £25,000.
P.S. We’d like to show you the official HIP logo, as clearly it must have been a work of great complexity and ingenuity, but mysteriously, it seems to have vanished off the CLG website. If any of EAT’s readers are able to email one to the Editor (rosalind.renshaw@googlemail.com) we’ll post it up for all to admire.

Bruce - interesting. 2 comments - both 'considered' - both worthless excepting proof of your rudeness and ignorance. WELL DONE!
I have plenty of opinions, PeeWee. I just like to consider them before spewing them out willy nilly like a pea-brained little Englander.
sorry, posted to the wrong story!

Have a look at the who is look up, and it reveals a lot!
Any Agents considering rebranding - there are a lot of eager graphic designers out there - a bit like a hairdresser wanting models - there are excellent designers out there who are prepared to design a logo on a donation basis.
Good to hear that people like Bruce find our comments priceless reading. 'Course, if Bruce had any opinion of his own on any of the subject matter, he could join in properly...
This site is turning into the Daily Mail for estate agents. The hypocrisy and faux outrage is pure gold.
Think the olympics one rolled in at approx 250K, so not that unreasonable
Well for those who voted this bunch of miscreants into power twelve years ago you have got yourself to blame BUT if you think the other lot are going to be any different forget it! The existing political parties are all the same = "reaction for votes". What this Country needs is a bit of Pro action. Many will not like it (our incoming cousins on benefits for one) but it needs a bit of dramatic recovery and an attempt if its not too late to reintroduce respect for each other. Without respect you might as well have a parrot running the country! Who's a pretty boy then? Sorry we have one he is called Mandelson.
Only twenty-two grand? A snip, if you ask me. Knowing how these things take shape, I expect that the 'true' cost (all the add-ons hidden under the carpet) will be nearer £100k! Similarly, the DCLG rebrand/CLG re-rebrand will have run into squillions - all wasted tax-payer money, of course...
