Selling Homes Like Selling Broadband, says Purplebricks figure

A new senior figure in Purplebricks claims the agency has much in common with selling broadband. 

Nick Gunga is the new chief revenue officer at the troubled online agency. He joins after a 19 year stint at TalkTalk, the telecommunications giant which hit the headlines in 2015 after what it called a “significant and sustained cyber-attack" involving a data breach of personal and banking details of up to four million customers.

Gunga says: “Purplebricks prioritises customers, and this is a sentiment I have held throughout my career. Its aim is to democratise buying and selling homes by making it more affordable and accessible. 


“The notion of democratisation has been pivotal in my time at TalkTalk as we believed broadband is a right not a privilege and should be accessible to all. I’m looking forward to working at a company with a shared vision and an amazing proposition to keep people at the heart of what we do and put them first.”

Purplebricks is now part of Strike, which in April revealed it made a loss of £19.7m in the year before it bought Purplebricks for £1.

    Honestly. How much of other people's money are these two companies prepared to continue throwing down a hole in the ground. All they are really doing is cheapening the house buying and selling process down to a commodity and trying to remove the emotion from it. Good luck with that. In the end they are providing a service that isn't needed and making thousands of good agents up and down the country suffer as a result. The world doesn't need them. It needs good people who know how to do the job well and provide the support that buyers and sellers have always needed. #keepitlocal

    the difference between Talk Talk and Purplebricks- Talk Talk provide a service people need and understand, if it doesn't work people walk. It is a retail sale rather than a service sale,; the product is the same for all customers, all customers' needs are the same. Agency is a service bespoke to each customer, each listing rep needs to offer a service that competes with the main 3 agents in each #local selling area. To do the job properly and to serve each principal properly Mr Gunga needs 3216 reps all who offer exemplary service. Even with that number his listing reps will be competing for 20% of the completions the dominant 3 agents don't want. Mr. Gunga has got himself a job but he doesn't understand quite what he's gotten himself into. Mr. Mitchell might have worked for Rightmove but he's no David Livsey, Paul Smith, Bob Scarf, Jeff Doble or Will Linley, the leadership essential to a BIG agency.

    Just another person who doesn't understand big ticket sales. Comparing a relatively short term, low cost subscription with a six figure plus purchase decision most people only make 3 or 4 times in a lifetime.

    When will the property selling public wake up to the fact that Purplebricks is simply offering a listing service. If it's cheap, it must be too good to be true. What it offers should not be compared to an estate agent. I don't doubt you are all trying to educate the public, rather than advertising PB on here!
