Estate Agent Today: as one great era ends, another begins

This week, you will have all seen the sad news that Graham Norwood is stepping down as editor of Estate Agent Today from the beginning of next month, after more than eight years in the role.

I’d like to take the chance here to pay my own personal tribute to Graham for all his hard work, dedication, commitment and fine writing over the years. And we are, of course, delighted that he will be continuing as editor of Letting Agent Today and Landlord Today, and also continuing his bi-weekly Weekend Features column.

We knew what we were getting from Graham when he took on the editor role in 2014 - an experienced, well-liked and well-connected journalist - but he has taken EAT to even greater heights than we could have envisaged, helped along by a strong and loyal following on Twitter (where a mixture of property, politics and F1 keeps his more than 23,000 followers entertained).

It’s been heartening to see the growth that has occurred during Graham’s tenure, and the respect EAT garners from the industry. This was especially the case during the pandemic, when EAT became the go-to resource for property news, information and key announcements - not just among agents, conveyancers and property people, but many of the wider public, too. Some of the reads we were experiencing were astronomical as people sought trustworthy news sources at a time of great uncertainty.

When news of his departure was announced this week, EAT readers took to Twitter to pay tribute. You can see some of these below.

But, as they say, when one chapter closes, another one opens. And we’re very happy to have award-winning journalist Marc Shoffman on board as Graham’s replacement.

Specialising in property and personal finance over the last decade, his work has appeared in Property Industry Eye, The Times, The Mail on Sunday and The Sun. He also co-hosts a successful podcast, In For a Penny, with his financial planner friend Joshua Gerstler.

As Marc himself said on Twitter: “I'm available for coffees and lunches to chat all things estate agency-related. Can't promise as much F1 knowledge as @PropertyJourn, but happy to reminisce about Arsenal’s Invincible season.”

If you want to get in contact with him, you can get in touch on marc@angelsmedia.co.uk or press@estateagenttoday.co.uk.

We look forward to the next chapter and what it will bring, and our readers can rest assured that we will still be striving to offer the very best property trade news website in the country.

Until next time…
