Buyers and sellers should focus on their own local market rather than national house price indices, the chief executive of Properytmark has claimed.
Speaking to property guru Phil Spencer on Move iQ’s first housing market podcast of 2024, Nathan Emerson said national house price reports are just a guide, while talking to a local agent will give people a more accurate picture.
Emerson said: “Every area has its own marketplace, that’s what we forget, the experience in the Midlands is different to that in the South West or North East.
“For a lot of people you hear the national headlines, the place to look is your local market.”
Asked if agents will just always talk the market up, Emerson said: “If you have someone acting on your behalf you want them to be a positive person.”
