Legal tech firm investigating cyberattack that could scupper sales

Legal sector infrastructure specialist CTS has said it is “urgently investigating” a cyberattack on its services that could impact property exchanges and completions.

Hundreds of conveyancers and law firms use CTS for their technology infrastructure and the firm confirmed this morning that it has been hit by a cyber incident.

It is believed that the brand has been targeted by a CitrixBleed bug that has hit other firms in recent weeks.

CTS said in a statement:  “We are experiencing a service outage which has impacted a portion of the services we deliver to some of our clients.

“The outage was caused by a cyber-incident. We are working closely with a leading global cyber forensics firm to help us with an urgent investigation into the incident and to assist us in service restoration.

“We continue to work around the clock with the assistance of third-party experts.

"Whilst we are confident that we will be able to restore services, we are unable to give a precise timeline for full restoration.

"We will continue to communicate directly with those of our clients which are impacted by the service outage, providing regular updates on the status of our work to restore services and our investigations into the incident.”

It comes around two years after conveyancing group Simplify was hit by a cybercrash that affected the systems of brands including Premier Property Lawyers, JS Law, DC Law and Advantage Property Lawyers.

This has zero to do with the technology play - more to do with companies probably not having key individuals who should be safeguarding their networks - or those who are in that role not performing.

The latest news I have is that only about 80 firms (not 200 as first thought) are involved and some can operate a work around today. They hope the situation will be resolved early next week. Shifting sands I am afraid.
