Clark will replace Michael Gove who was sacked by Prime Minister Boris Johnson yesterday after suggesting he should stand down.
It isn't Clark's first frontlne role.
He served as Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government from May 2015 until July 2016.
Clark was also Business Secretary between July 2016 and July 2019 under Theresa May's government.
But he had the whip removed when Johnson was Prime Minister in September 2019 after voting against the government's EU Withdrawal Bill.
It comes as Johnson is set to outline his departure as Prime Minister this morning.
He is reported to be planning to stay in post until the autumn while a replacement is appointed.
