Wales scores highly among English buyers

England may have beaten Wales in the football but it is a different story when it comes to which country is attracting eachother’s buyer population.

Analysis by Compare My Move has identified a surge in the number of moves from England to Wales in 2021, increasing by 48% compared with 2020.

The removals comparison website took a sample of 100,000 requests through its platform and found England to Wales moves increased significantly post-pandemic compared to pre-Covid times

Its study found that moves from England to Wales increased by 17% in 2020 compared with 2019, before rising by 48% annually in 2021.

The analysis found that 45% of people from Wales moved to England last year.

Moves out of England are nearly double the number of moves into England from the rest of the UK, Compare My Move claims.

A survey of users by the website found 47% of buyers moved from Wales to England for a better lifestyle, noting a “slower pace of life” attracted them.

A further 42% said they moved to Wales to be closer to family, while 15% cited a lower cost of living.

Dave Sayce, co-founder of Compare My Move, said: “Our latest research shows the effect the Stamp Duty holiday combined with a better lifestyle had on removals in 2021.

“Many people told us that they made the big move to benefit from a better lifestyle and take advantage of the many beautiful beaches and walks Wales has to offer. It can be argued that our must-haves when moving house have changed post-pandemic.”
