Expansions and acquisitions unveiled by franchise agencies

Hunters has boosted its office network over the 200 mark through the acquisition of Besley Hill, one of the longest established networks in the west of England.

Besley Hill dates back to the 1970s and has 15 branches throughout four counties in the region with offices in Stroud, Bedminster, Easton and Kingswood amongst other locations. Each of Besley Hill’s branches is franchised, complementing Hunters’ business model.

“We are delighted to welcome the Besley Hill group of branches to Hunters as we share an ambition to grow our businesses by delivering first class customer service” says Glynis Frew, chief executive of Hunters, which is reported to have paid £2.5m for Besley Hill.

“Hunters’ national reach and reputation, combined with its strong focus on local ownership and local knowledge through its franchise model, is very exciting for us and represents great opportunities for the future” according to Adam Offer, Besley Hill managing director.

Last year Hunters announced 30 new branches  including 20 existing independent agents.

Meanwhile another franchise firm, Winkworth, is launching four new franchises in Cheltenham, Kingsbury, Milford-on-Sea and Brentford, all opening in the coming weeks and bringing the total number of offices to 60 in the capital and 97 nationwide.

“We have seen an increase in enquiries from business owners looking to convert to the Winkworth brand, and as a result, we are moving confidently forward with our organic growth plan” says Winkworth chief executive Dominic Agace.

The four offices will have access to the company’s centralised database of buyers and sellers, support services, and digital and marketing capabilities.

Cheltenham is to be owned and operated by Tom Mayfield who previously worked for Winkworth's Dulwich office and Carter Jonas. The Milford-on-Sea franchise will be run by Chris Collinge who has over 20 years' experience in estate agency.

The Kingsbury office will be owned by a new franchisee to Winkworth, Ajay Bathija, while the existing franchisee of Fulham, Parsons Green and Ladbroke Grove - Sohail Janjuha - is expanding his portfolio of offices into Brentford, West London. He joined Winkworth in 2015 after many years in the property industry following a career in the City.
