A director of westcountry estate agency Mansbridge and Balment has been air-lifted from France to a hospital in Plymouth in a coma after suffering a serious head injury while skiing.

Darren Lawson, who heads up the city's office of the agency, was in an induced coma for some days after the accident but shortly before Christmas improved to a non-induced coma and was well enough for his return to the UK.

A Facebook post from his wife on December 23 read: Just an update that tomorrow Darren will be returning to the UK on a intensive care plane and transferred to Derriford Hospital [in Plymouth]. We are thrilled. We would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and well wishes which has been overwhelming. Once in Derriford we will have to wait for the Medical teams there to assess Darren and we will act on their advice. .... Wishing you all a merry Christmas , raise a glass to Darren and keep your fingers crossed for 2015.

No official news on Darren's condition has been released since Christmas but he is reported to have been responding to questions from his family.
