Willy, won't he Street name cock-ups hit headlines

The spirit of Benny Hill lives on thanks to website NeedaProperty.com, which must be odds-on to win this year's award for getting the most coverage out of one press release.

Not only has its study of rude street names generated huge press coverage (lots of column inches, so to speak) but it's also resulted in the most unusual analysis of house prices yet.

The site spent two months asking 2,000 adults to vote for the real-life top 10 streets they would be most embarrassed to have as an address. Options included Crotch Crescent, Minge Lane, Bell End, The Knob and plenty of similar places where people hang out.

Apparently the houses on these streets are worth an average of £84,000 less than comparable properties close by. That's about a 19 per cent loss of value according to the website according to an expert statistician commissioned by the site.

So far, so funny. But now some editions of this morning's Daily Mirror have taken it further by working out that a street in Edinburgh called Bellenden Gardens is shaped like a penis.

Where will it end Luckily, NeedaProperty does not discuss whether house prices in streets without genitals' nicknames are rising too fast - otherwise it might have to say which prick it thinks is most likely to burst the bubble.
