There was an increase described as “unseasonal” in homes being sold in November, according to our latest ‘man with the boards’ survey.

Estate agency boards firm Agency Express said there was a month-on-month increase in properties achieving ‘Sold’ status in seven out of 12 regions.

Top  performer was the West Midlands with a 16.2% increase, followed by the East Midlands at 12.7%.

Other regional hotspots for properties achieving ‘Sold’ status were the north-east up by 8.4%, Scotland up by 6.5%, the south-east up by 5.7%, the south-west up by 7.9% and Yorkshire & Humber up by 7.6%.

Slower activity was recorded for the rest of the UK, with declines in East Anglia down 5.8%, the north-east down 0.7%, London down 1% and Wales down 7.2%.

In many regions there were fewer new properties coming to the market than in October, but a notable exception was London where there was a 62.7% rise.

Stephen Watson, managing director of Agency Express, said: “November’s figures are buoyant when compared to previous years. The index highlights the incremental growth we have had over the past two years and the market continues to thrive.

“We anticipate quieter months throughout winter, so for regions to achieve growth during this period highlights the current confidence and continued demand in the market.

“Looking forwards, with recent news of the retraction of the Funding for Lending scheme, it will be interesting to see if the market remains full steam ahead and at a sustainable rate, or if it starts to level at the prospect of a rise in interest rates.”
