It is the time of year when agents do many good and charitable deeds.

They rattle tins, support local charities, act as collection centres, volunteer their staff, and generally turn out their pockets for a whole variety of causes.

But we were interested in the conundrum of one local independent which we feel may well be shared by a number of you.

Redmove, in York, are wondering how they can help local elderly people with their heating bills.

They could, of course, simply make a donation to an appropriate charity.

But with the best will in the world, not all of that money will directly go to the people the agency wants to help. Charities, like agents, have staff and overheads.

Furthermore, there are only so many times agents can be photographed handing over giant-sized cheques to their chosen causes. There must be better ways of getting publicity.

Although Redmove do stress that they are not looking for photo opportunities, there seems no reason why they should not get at least some positive vibes from it.

Michael Redmond, of Redmove, sums it up like this: “We want to try and give away £1,000 to some elderly York residents this winter to help with their fuel bills, but we just can’t work out how to do it!

“It sounds silly, but it’s not as easy as you’d think.”

A blog on their website puts it all very well – and your ideas posted below would be most welcome.

I have noticed how many agents do give to charity, on our website we are adding a placement on the top left where agents can upload their chosen charity logo, with a link to the charity website as well.
