A director of the world’s latest property consultancy, CBRE, has resigned after being arrested on suspicion of rape.

Matthew Pullen’s resignation came just a week after he was appointed the new UK managing director, due to start on January 1.

Pullen, who joined the graduate programme at CBRE in 1990, will now be replaced by Ciaran Bird as new UK managing director of the firm which is primarily known for its commercial estate agency work, although it also has a London-based residential division.

A spokeswoman for City of London Police’s Bishopsgate station said: “A male aged 44 was arrested by City of London Police on Wednesday, October 31, on suspicion of rape. He has subsequently been bailed pending further enquiries.”

It is understood that Pullen was arrested at a five-star hotel in London. CBRE accepted his resignation immediately. The firm said: “It is now a private matter for the individual involved and therefore we are unable to comment further.”

A tragic incident for the victim and on the assumption the allegations are true that individual has been through a truly dreadful experience that no body should endure.

The difficulty will be if the allegations are found to be untrue as is sometimes the case in any alleged crime, replace the occupation and industry of the accused in the article with any other as its link to property is irrelevant and the argument for anonymity of those accused until found guilty of such crimes seems like a responsible path to follow.

If found guilty he deserves all that comes to him, if found innocent he could be ruined
