The Property Ombudsman is in talks with the glazing industry’s trade body, FENSA, about proving an independent dispute resolution service to consumers.

Christopher Hamer said that FENSA had thought about setting up its own ombudsman service before deciding to investigate utilising the experience of an existing service.

Hamer, who also plans to expand TPO to other areas of the property industry, also revealed that he dealt with 1,360 cases last year, out of a total of 14,000 initial inquiries.

He said about 60% of complaints are lettings-related and that in view of a ‘glaring omission’ to make letting agents belong to an ombudsman scheme, they should be regulated by law.
