Mortgage lending last month was less than half the level of January 2008.

Just £12.4bn was advanced by the major mortgage lenders during the month, 8% less than in December and 52% lower than in January 2008, according to the Council of Mortgage Lenders.

The news comes despite many agents reporting increased traffic to their websites and more inquiries and viewings.

What is so hard for the writer of this article to understand...there is increased "Traffic" and more enquiries HOWEVER this is not resulting in deals being agreed as the banks/b.Soc still will NOT lend....and probably wont until the economy turns..which will be many many years.
