No Government minister has met anyone from the tenancy deposit scheme providers either last year or so far this year.

This is despite mounting concerns and a barrage of parliamentary questions being tabled by shadow housing minister Grant Shapps.

In the latest round, he asked whether ministers had attended meetings and what was discussed. He was told by housing minister Ian Austin that civil servants have instead held meetings.

They had three meetings last year with Mydeposits, and one in January. They had three meetings with the Deposit Protection Service in 2009, and have had two meetings this year, in January and February. They had four meetings with the TDS last year, and have so far had two meetings this year.

According to Austin’s answer, the items discussed included general updates, contractual obligations including key performance indicators, disaster recovery / business continuity plans and tests, operational issues including promotional activity, data collection and other current issues.

Also discussed, he said, were issues raised by a body called the Tenancy Deposit Protection User Group. We asked CLG yesterday for information about this group but the press office failed to get back to us.
