A civic reception awaits the Zoopla cycling team when they reach Portsmouth on Saturday.

It is being organised by local Fine & Country estate agent Colin Shairp, with the city’s Lord Mayor to greet the riders, who are aiming to raise £100,000 for the Estate Agency Foundation.

Shairp, pictured, said: “I want to give the riders a big welcome from the city to recognise what they are doing.

“One of the riders, Sean Newman, is a fellow Fine & Country director and his bravery after his horrific bike crash in the United States two years ago deserves recognition on its own.

“The EAF is hoping to raise £150,000 this year to help the homeless and other charities. As well as boosting the coffers for Shelter, it’s also aiming to donate to Help for Heroes and charities that assist homeless ex-service personnel.

“In an area populated by so many serving and ex-Navy people, that has to be worthy of support.”

The reception is being held at the Holiday Inn in Old Portsmouth from 4 pm onwards with local people being urged to go along.

Estate agents who would like to donate or help on the big day should contact Colin Shairp on 023 9327 7277 or email drayton@fineandcountry.com
