It’s what you might call a bit of a nightmare in terms of a charitable gesture.

You give away a great prize – and then your boss goes and wins it.

This is what happened when LSLI’s Jon Cooke gave a new bike to encourage agents to take part in the 2013 Great British Property Cycle. The £750 prize was for the agent who raised the most money for the Estate Agency Foundation.

As Cooke said at the time: “A little extra incentive will really encourage people to get out there and get cycling, and this seems to be an appropriate reward.”

So who was the agent who dusted off his Lycra to greatest effect this year?

Step forward none other than David Newnes, managing director of estate agency for LSL and director of the Estate Agency Foundation.

However, the charitable Newnes will today recycle his prize.

He is donating it to a raffle at today’s Estate Agency of the Year bash (have a great day, everyone) to raise more funds for the Foundation.

Newnes raised over £5,000 by his pedal power while the event as a whole raised some £28,000 for the Foundation to pass on to homeless causes.

Today’s raffle will add to that amount, as will this year’s property bake-off:
