Oh dear. It had to happen.

The Mail on Sunday, swiftly followed by The Sun,  discovers that a “film starring estate agents as sleazy, greedy liars is made … by top estate agent”.

Shock! Horror!

Furthermore, it discovers that Douglas & Gordon director Ed Mead – who, let’s face it, has been writing off-the-wall estate agency columns for years – is on the board of the Property Ombudsman, “which seeks to improve standards among estate agents”.

Apparently, “leading property figures have been quick to condemn the YouTube film”.

So, has the funniest film the property world has seen since the Mike Ockenden ‘Hitler’ moment, rebounded on Douglas & Gordon?

Surely not. If you don’t get the joke, fair enough, but it’s a bit like complaining that Fawlty Towers gave a grossly misleading overview of the hotel industry or that Monty Python was cruel to parrots.

You can see the video again below, but remember, you saw it on EAT first!

What about the Daily Mail's vagina monologues by Paul Dacre? They might be worth airing.

    :0) – Bob Dobalina,

………………..you funny little sod – have you’ve got an online blogging version of small bloke syndrome?

You sort of rocked up here a few days ago bunging the same post on a few articles all of them gobbing off nothing, you kicked the thread off on the article about the Eurozone driving London prices up with post that you must have hoped would get Wardy and Fun Boy wound up (you really got em boy, look at the response they both rushed to come back to you with)

…………..then I give you a bit of a nudge and there you are, bless you – gobby little fella giving it all the lip and telling me to…..what was it? Stand back or something?

So, what is it that makes you come on an EA site kicking off like this mate, did you come home early one day to find Mrs Dobalina bent over the kitchen table being sorted out by an EA or are you just a wally having some (of your idea of) fun?

    Jonnie

P.s – Have you seen the video yet, not the one the EA who porked your Mrs got on his phone, the Hitler one?

Supeb video. Sophisticated ironic humour is what we British do so well. And it could only have been made by someone who really understands the truths behind the stereotypes and is therefore clearly ahead of the game in addressing them in his own agency. If you don't get it - then the joke's on you! Bring on Part II Ed.

    @Facepaint @EW

Usually, when leading industry figures express opinions- they are quoted. Odd that none were actually mentioned!

@Facepaint - good point - I am not a leading figure - but I certainly know a few and all those who have expressed opinion laughed - lots.

The 'Hitler' video is still on YouTube.
It all looks like ancient history now, but it was in fact only Feb 2010.

Frankly - its funnier than most comedies on TV. Many of these are set in a 'work' sit com environment. From Dinner Ladies, to Yes Sir, from Thin Blue Line to Scrubs.

They are funny - look at the Office - did that damn paper suppliers world wide?

Honesty at last! If we actually told it like it is, then the nutters that attack agency from a position of ignorance would fade away.

I am with EW - get a life! Nice to see him supporting a competitor rather than trying to lay the boot in.

All very funny and as usual, blown out of proportion.

I thought it was a real life documentary a bit like Dispatches did with Foxtons.

    GET A LIFE.

Did Fawlty Towers condemn all hotel owners. Or Doc Martin all Doctors?

It funny and obviously a parody. Any other job and it would be laughed at by the press.

Agents dont really behave like that and more than MI5 act in the same way they do in Spooks.

Its blatantly not real and frankly very well produced. I was not a documentary - it was an industry joke which I for one thought very amusing and brightened my day.

Observant Comedy works best when its is most accurate and representative. This is absolutely spot on. So accurate though, that this is less of a parody and more like a genuine fly-on-the-wall documetary. Oh dear.
