The civil servant in charge of housing at Communities and Local Government is paid more than the Prime Minister.

While David Cameron earns £142,500 a year, Richard McCarthy, director general of housing and planning at CLG, picks up £175,000 – close to the pay ceiling of £179,999.

Terrie Alafat, who also has a housing remit at CLG, earns £105,000.

The earnings are revealed in lists of the highest-paid civil servants which have been published for the first time.

The Cabinet Officer has released the lists, giving details of all staff earning over £80,000. Previously, it only published details of those on more than £150,000.

In the CLG list, 27 civil servants are named as earning over £80,000.

What's worse than the money is that, even at those rates, they were still thick enough to think Home Information Packs were even better that sliced bread packs.
Have a good rest of the day folks - despite Osborne! Big T

Why does this come as any surprise to anyone? The problem is the PM is underpaid. Wayne Rooney earns almost this much in a week and at least he was good at his job until he lost his form recently on and off the pitch. The CLG I am afraid has been playing very poorly for years culminating in the disasterous decision to cave in to lobbying and allow three TDP schemes to exist. Mind they have gone world class now by omitting the word "new" in the £100K rent changes. £180K a year and cannot even create a correct document.
