One of London’s most high-profile estate agents has stepped down from his job – for the time being.
Ivor Dickinson, managing director of Douglas & Gordon, has gone on sabbatical from the firm after more than 26 years.
Rumours that he has quit permanently or is on gardening leave are wide of the mark.
A spokesperson for the company said: “In light of his 26 years of service with D&G, the board, following discussions with Ivor, have announced that he will be taking a well-deserved sabbatical from the company.
“While he is away from the business Michael Hodgson will assume a temporary executive role as chairman of D&G working with Virginia Skilbeck as director of lettings and George Franks as director of sales.”
Dickinson, a former Coldstream Guardsman who served in Belfast and Germany, heads a team of some 200 people at Douglas & Gordon.
He originally joined as a negotiator in the Balham office, becoming managing director some ten years later. On his Linked In profile, he notes that he likes to think he knows more about running an estate agent than most.
The firm was behind the 2011 spoof fly-on-the-wall film, Under Offer, apparently showing estate agents at their worst. The industry got the joke – but notably, some tabloid newspapers didn’t. These should jog your memory.
