Soon-to-be President Trueman will have her sights set...

Andrews Lettings Director Angharad Trueman has identified two priorities for her forthcoming term as President of the Association of Lettings Agents.

Known by the nickname, ‘Harry’, she has set her sights on the impact of the Renters (Reform) Bill on lettings agents and landlords and the under-representation of women in the sector’s senior leadership roles.

The Renters (Reform) Bill, which is awaiting it’s second reading in the Commons, has been described as the most radical shake-up of the lettings industry for a generation.

Included among its proposals are measures that would ban Section 21 – so-called ‘no-fault – evictions, strengthening of Section 8, relaxation of rules relating to pets in lets, the creation of a new property ombudsman and a transition to periodic tenancies.

Angharad says: “I will be encouraging members to lobby more with their MPs, to talk more to Government to try to get them to hear our views.

“I’ll be urging landlords and letting agents to choose one thing where they want to make a change and to lobby hard.”

And she believes representation of women in the sector’s leadership teams is “woeful.”

“As president of ARLA and as group lettings director for Andrews I want women to be able to see that that's possible - that they can achieve that.

“I'm not special in any way I've just been really lucky in my career and I've worked really hard and I just want to be able to demonstrate that to other women.”
