Why does this Industry think they are so much more important than the rest of the economy. Heard all the nonsense about pent up demand of 450,000 which have not been reflected in the HMRC figures for May & June; so much so the Government had to offer stamp duty as a stimulus. ( June down 35% on June 19 which was less than 2018) No other business in the high street is operating by appointment only except us. Let us do business in the same way as other businesses and trust us as agents to act responsibly

As with their previous release of 6 million hits, more people might be looking at Torquay BUT in the last 14 days, 92 properties have been added to Rightmove (includes Price Reductions) and only 6 SSTC. The reality of Torquay is that of the 817 Properties of all types showing for sale today, nearly half are flats (397). With little New Build over the past 20 years, the latest developments now predominantly sold, I would agree that people might be looking but struggling to find the stock.

CTR appeals only to the "Corporates" as a means of managing presentation. Why can't Rightmove release the number of additional number of email leads or telephone calls that result from this wave of hits. That is value to Agents and how that translates into SSTC and Lets. Ultimately, Agents would love to sell or let property after one email or telephone call. Agents want quality over quantity. Pent up demand is not people looking at videos of property, it's buyers. No one has produced any statistics to show that the alleged demand is actually there. SSTC 47 % of last year, means that Agents Bank Accounts are going to be down 53%. As the article headline suggests. This is no more than a PR exercise by Rightmove

An excellent article Nat and well researched. There were also lots of independent chains that got bought too, one of being Allen & Harris ( There was never a Mr Harris, only Mike Allen who sold allegedly for 13m) The point I should like to make is that as you admitted, you were still a boy around in 1988 and far too many "Property Commentators" claiming expertise in the media can't see past 2008. They espouse opinion without having looked back and researched as you did for this article. Perhaps some of the other contributors to this publication, could take a leaf out of your book. 'One swallow does not a summer make" so an end to all the comments made by contributors mentioning "This week, in our office" would be welcomed.
