In other words, a portal being able to 'grab' the seller contact details which currently RM, ZPG etc generally cannot. Once a portal owns the sell side and the buy side, why do they need agents? Does this end up being the UK's 'Zillow direct to the consumer' play whereby agents get used just for their data and then cast aside? Asking for a friend.

Just a personal opinion but it seems ill-advised to have re-branded, wasting many years of brand investment and squandering brand awareness. And Strike? That has some pretty negative connotations - take your pick of 'three strikes and you're out' or Arthur Scargill.

At last someone at Countrywide Plc is at least suggesting *something* in order to lift them out of the deep hole that Peter Long has dug them. Jeremy Hosking, a large shareholder in the once great estate agency firm, suggests gifting 15% of the company's share capital to employees. Like start-ups do all the time. But that's not nearly enough in strategic terms to save this Titanic of the industry from continuing to stray ever closer to the ice-fields. No, Countrywide need a new senior team, an innovative approach to operations without the mill-stone of 800 branches and a totally renewed attitude toward technology and marketing. Some of us are already doing this. For Countrywide it probably is too late but I hope not. I grew up with Bairstow Eves as the main Essex competitor to my family's Quirk and Partners agency business in the 70's and 80's. I respect it greatly as a brand - but it's hard to respect the people that seem intent on killing it. Great scoop by Estate Agent Today

Hey Joel, thanks for commenting. I'm not seeking to give advice, just opinion. Hope it's ok to still have one despite Emoov not working out after ten years of growth and effort. We do need to change our retarded attitude toward failure though. Those that try and fail more often go on to succeed because they learn from failing and from pushing boundaries and innovating. Whilst those that don't even try, running scared of the so called stigma of failure, never fulfil themselves really or amount to much. Better to have the courage to fail than not to have courage at all - and of course, one failure does not define a person as the many successes in history that previously failed are testimony to. But it's easy to be blinkered and cynical from the comfort of the back row I suppose.
