Portals must ‘change with the times’ to attract next generation of buyers - warning

Portals such as Rightmove and Zoopla need to adapt to keep up with younger generations, agents have said.

The latest Agents MVMT Pass the Syrup podcast tackled the prickly issue of if Rightmove is fit for purpose.

It come as research showed 18-24 year olds – generation Z – are the least likely age group to use portals to find a home, which could influence how properties are purchased in the future.

Speaking on the podcast, Ben Gee, founder of Hat and Home, said: “Younger people are not using websites like we do.

“Portals need to change as they are not good enough at the moment if they want to keep up with the younger generation.”

He suggested portals and need to keep up with the way people search for property, particularly with eth growing trend of artificial intelligence.

Sarah Gabb, partner at Seager and Co added that Rightmove is already becoming less relevant to her, with sellers preferring vidoes and social media.

But eXp agent Scott Gunn added that for now it is the “quickest rue to market” to attract buyers who want to see local listings in one place. He added that social media can complement this.
