Should agents ban swearing to boost staff wellbeing?

Agents should ban swearing from the workplace to boost employee wellbeing, a respected agency executive claims.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Agents MVMT Pass the Syrup podcast, Michelle Gallagher of JDG Estate Agents, says bad language creates a negative atmosphere.

Gallagher said she has a policy that staff leave by 5pm and she turns her work phone off at the same time unless there are urgent issues to deal with.

She also suggested communication and supporting colleagues is important, adding that agents should avoid instructions with difficult clients if they prove stressful.

Pass the Syrup host Ben Madden, of Fine & Country Turnham Green Terrace, said difficult clients can add to agent stresses.

He said: “From time to time you deal with testing characters.

“We would describe those individuals as a character and that would be it, everyone knows what that means.”

The podcast guests also discussed the pros and cons of artificial intelligence in estate agency, with agents highlighting that it can speed-up mundane tasks but mustn’t replace the need for the personal human touch.
