Blooming marvellous! Agency brands on display at the Chelsea Flower Show

Agency brands including Hamptons and Savills as well as property developer London Square have sponsored gardens at this week’s Chelsea Flower Show and one even had a royal visit.

King Charles and Queen Camilla toured the annual Royal Horticultural Society event yesterday and chose James Smith’s London Square Community Garden as one of their stopoffs.
Chelsea Pensioners even had a photocall at the exhibit during the day.

Smith has created two distinct areas.

Under a pergola, there is a welcoming place to meet up with an outdoor kitchen, a large bespoke terrazzo table, inset with bespoke chess boards, and stylish upcycled chairs by TV presenter and furniture restorer Jay Blades, with raised beds containing edible produce for cooking.

Stepping stones lead to a peaceful spot with a large swing seat and garden bookcase set in a tranquil planted area, with a shady spot under the canopy of a tree.

Planting is a mix of lush green textures with blue, purple, white, and pink flowers, with aromatic and scented plants, herbs and shrubs, with trees providing dappled shade. The produce section of the garden has a mixture of vegetables and herbs.

Nearby, agency brand Hamptons has partnered with acclaimed Italian chef Francesco Mazzei for its Mediterranean Garden.

Designed by Filippo Dester from Garden Club London, it is inspired by the architecture and sculptural planting of the Mediterranean landscape of Filippo’s homeland.

Mediterranean in theme, but designed for the UK, the garden pulls on the many aspects of Mediterranean culture and lifestyle that we all know and love. At the heart of the garden is an outdoor working kitchen enclosed by a walled pergola and a generous table where friends and family gather to share food and each other’s company – a fundamental element of the Mediterranean lifestyle.

Drawing on the story of connection of the Mediterranean garden, Mazzei cooked a family favourite pasta recipe in the kitchen using fresh herbs picked straight from the garden and n’duja, an ingredient from his region of Calabria that Francesco himself helped introduce to the UK.
