Hannells shortlisted as Midlands Family Business Of The Year

Family-run estate agency Hannells is celebrating after reaching the final of a prestigious local business awards.

Launched back in 2009, the Midlands Family Business Of The Year Awards celebrate and showcase the region’s great family businesses with entries coming in from dozens of successful family businesses across a wide variety of industries and professions.

Shortlisted for two categories, the independent, family-run business is in the running for “Property & Construction Excellence” and the overall “Family Business Of The Year” category.

Alison Brain, joint co-founder, said: “Although the winners are yet to be announced, we’re really proud to be named as finalists for this prestigious awards. We’ve won many acclaimed industry awards over the years but we’ve always been very proud of being a family business and to be recognised for that is really special.” There’s still one more step in the 2023 Awards process as they face an interview in front of a judging panel which will be taking place later on this month.

The firm had already been celebrating after March of this year marked the 20th anniversary since Michael and Alison Brain first launched the business from a tiny two-story office in small Derby village back in 2003. They had no prior estate agency experience but had found themselves on the receiving end of a poor service whilst trying to sell their own property.

Since then, the property business has gone on to become a huge success and unlike many of the other local independent estate agencies that have been acquired by large corporate entities, they’ve chosen to remain family owned and still oversee the running of the business to this day alongside sons Benjamin Brain and Oliver Brain who both hold senior positions in the company.
