Landmark acquisition expands location-based tools

Landmark Information Group has completed the acquisition of Ordnance Survey’s shares in the PointX location services database.

PointX was formed in 2001 as a joint venture between data firm Landmark and Ordnance Survey.

Now as a fully owned entity, PointX will help Landmark  deliver richer data services to a range of new applications spanning its whole customer base in the property market.

Simon Brown, chief executive of Landmark Information Group, said: "This acquisition reinforces Landmark's mission to use data and technology to transform the property transaction process.

“Points of interest data, such as the location of local amenities, is crucial information for all property professionals. The addition of PointX's  data to our suite of services will offer richer and more dynamic insights, enabling our clients to harness the power of location-based data in new and innovative ways."

David Henderson, chief geospatial officer at Ordnance Survey, added: “Ordnance Survey continues to recognise the important role Points of Interest data has made for our customers over the last twenty years.

“Whilst OS is exiting PointX as a shareholder, we will continue to work closely with the Landmark team and will be proud to continue to distribute PoI data to our customers and partners through our product catalogue."
