The Homesearch portal 12 months on - the inside story

This time last year the industry was awaiting the launch of a new portal - the free to list public site proposed by data consultancy Homesearch.

At the time Homesearch enjoyed a string of testimonials from supportive agents in an announcement saying it had secured more than 10,000 agents signing up prior to a summer launch date. Agents were given a short period to familiarise themselves with the public site and give feedback to the two founders of Homesearch, Sam Hunter and Giles Ellwood.

But while the company has continued to make a big name for itself as a respected data provider for the industry, the concept of its public portal didn't happen quite as the company expected. Why?

The mystery is resolved today in a video interview between Sam Hunter and Estate Agent Today’s Chris Buckler, himself an agent in London.

The five minute interview also discusses the huge amount of data held on Homesearch, thoughts on potential housing market growth areas, and how flexibility is the key to the market in the future.

  • Hit Man

Sam Hunter is a very likable and honest guy, with the trust he has with agents he could have been on to a winner if he only hooked up with the right people. Homesearch is a good product but I think they should of paired up with a portal offering a white label version similar to what Hometrack have with Zoopla. Boomin on the other hand don't and will never gain the respect Homesearch have so where does that leave them?
