Home Counties estate agent living in Indian slums for two weeks

An estate agent is currently with a team of volunteers living in slums in the Indian capital of New Delhi for two weeks.

Lara Wadey, from Aylsbury, is volunteering with a charity called Asha which provides slum-dwellers in India with opportunities to access medical, financial and housing expertise.

In an interview with Buckinghamshire local radio station Mix 96, Wadey said that the decision to go to India followed personal addition issues that she suffered over a decade ago. Since then she has volunteered in the UK and fund-raised for charities through running marathons.

"I'm always trying to help and give back. I just wanted to do something a bit bigger, which has a bit more of an impact on the world. So when the opportunity to volunteer at the slums came up, it was just something I couldn't say no to” she told the radio station.

“People who have been out there have told me how life changing it is, and how you will just want to empty your bank account to support the children there. It reconfirms how valuable life is, and every day we wake up is a blessing. It's something that I preach and that I tell my daughter, and something I live by. You only get one life; live it."
