'Revenge porn' online pictures lead to jail for jilted estate agent

An estate agent who was jilted by his girlfriend has been jailed for sending explicit sexual images of her to another person in a bid to humiliate her.

The Daily Mail website reports that Ashleigh Hayward, an agent in Swansea, was prosecuted under new laws which make so-called 'revenge porn' illegal after he admitted sending photos of the woman to a friend.

Hayward was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to disclosing 38 private sexual photographs with intent to cause distress.

The magistrate, Ros Evans, told the court that as the images had been uploaded to the internet arisk existed that they could be more widely shared - making the offence greater.

The Mail says she told Hayward: “This was a deliberate, premeditated act aimed at causing maximum distress using modern technology in the worst possible way - she has been violated. You uploaded pictures to the world wide web, and they can be accessed indefinitely.”
