The Herald Scotland and Sunday Herald newspapers have launched a property portal targeting affluent 40-plus users and bidding to attract buyers who live outside of Scotland.
The papers - which operate a joint website on www.heraldscotland.com - have revamped their printed weekly property section to include what they call unique signifier cross referencing'. This takes the form of a printed number next to each home advertised in the papers which, when fed into the new portal, provides additional details and photographs.
The portal, www.scotlandshomes.co.uk, went live this week and an advertising campaign is being aired on Channel 4, Sky Adsmart, Classic FM Scotland and Smooth Radio.
The newspapers, owned by the Herald and Times Group, have been read traditionally by ABC1 readers aged 40 plus.
Local property sections are a cash cow for many local newspapers, although readership has been declining and scores of once-daily local papers now appear only weekly.
Many newspaper groups have been struggling to find ways of successfully translating revenue from property ads to their online newspaper sites. The Herald and Times Group claims 82 per cent of property buyers claim to see a home advertised in print and then follow up by searching online for additional details or photographs.
