One of Northern Ireland's best known estate agents has been declared bankrupt according to press reports in the province.

Gerry O'Connor of GOC Estate Agents has been declared insolvent by Belfast High Court after action against him by creditors.

But the agency - led by O'Connor and his wife Kirby - is in "no way affected" by the prominent businessman's bankruptcy, according to a statement by the firm to the Belfast Telegraph.

However O'Connor, 61, will now no longer be able to continue as a director of the company he founded more than 20 years ago, and will remain barred for 12 months.

O'Connor has been a prominent figure in Belfast estate agency for over 40 years and set up his own firm back in 1994, dealing in sales and lettings - particularly student accommodation - in the upmarket district of Stranmillis in south Belfast.
