Rock stars don't die young any more - they go into property. And it's a successful move if former Judas Priest guitarist K K Downing is anything to go by.

His scheme of golfing villas in Shropshire, The Astbury, has been awarded the UK's Best Residential Development gong at the International Property Awards in London.

The wins come as a result of plans to build 12 luxury golf homes on the 32-acre, 18th century site, as part of a project with Birmingham developers Court Collaboration and development financiers Regentsmead.

Designs for the three and four bedroom homes were so impressive that Ryder Cup and Open Championship winner Darren Clarke was convinced to not only put his name to the scheme but also purchase the first home.

When I was challenged to a game of golf in the 1980s by Def Leppard, I never thought that my life would take the route it has says Downing.

For decades I have focused on the course and the way it plays, but now we've been able to take that up to another level with the addition of award-winning real estate.
