Adzuna, the ambitious classified advertising search engine site, has made its first acquisition.

The business, co-founded by the former chief operating officer of Zoopla, has bought social classifieds site Oodle UK.

The deal was announced after the US arm of Oodle was bought by QVC. All Oodle users looking for property, jobs or cars are now being redirected to Adzuna.

Adzuna, which says it now has over a million monthly visitors, was launched in 2011 and added its property section last March. It aims to list nearly every job, home and car available on the market.

It was founded by Doug Monro, who was managing director of Gumtree before going to Zoopla, and Andrew Hunter, previously head of marketing at Gumtree.

In November, it was announced that Adzuna’s jobs and property data is powering the Number 10 Dashboard, a real-time data app used by the prime minister, which aids government decision-making on the UK economy.

The business said it plans significant international expansion in 2013.

Monro said: “We’re delighted to announce the acquisition of Oodle.co.uk’s traffic. This acquisition will accelerate our growth towards becoming the UK’s biggest classifieds search engine.”
