Agents have been told to gear up for a new supersized marketing era, with home hunters now able to do a search on Rightmove via their TV screens.

They will also be able to ‘save’ properties to their TVs that they have already found on Rightmove via, for example, their mobile device, and gather the family round their 60 inch screens in the sitting room so that everyone can marvel at the home they might be living in next.

A new Rightmove TV app allows users to search all properties listed on the Rightmove site, including maps, floor plans and property details, through an internet-enabled television.

The app has initially been designed for Samsung television sets, but versions for additional manufacturers are expected over the next 12 months.

Rightmove director Miles Shipside said: “The TV app is an ideal addition to Rightmove’s range of home-hunting platforms, and as the UK’s number one TV brand, Samsung were the ideal partner for us in developing this exciting new property search tool.

“Consumers want to carry out their property search on the electronic devices that are most convenient and effective for them. As the largest and most communal screen in the house, the TV app will be a great enhancement to the Rightmove home-hunting experience.”

The TV app will link with a user’s My Rightmove account so that properties and searches can be fully synchronised between Rightmove’s desktop, mobile and TV platforms.

Convergence across the platforms means home-hunters will be able to save properties they like while searching on a desktop or mobile device, and show them to family and friends on their TV screen when they get home.

Shipside adds: “Rightmove have always taken the lead in bringing home-hunting to new platforms, such as our award-winning mobile devices, and we are confident that internet-enabled TV will grow to play a key role in the property search process.

“This latest home-hunting investment will be of huge benefit to Rightmove member agents by extending the reach of their properties even further. The larger viewing screen that a television provides means that agents can make the most of visually presenting properties on behalf of their vendors and landlords.

“Quality property presentation will be more important than ever.”

The Rightmove TV app is free to download now on all 2011 model Samsung Smart TVs and Smart Blu-Ray players. It is pre-installed on all new Samsung Smart TVs and Blu Ray Players purchased from December 20, 2011.

Within the next few weeks it will also be available for 2010 model Samsung Smart TVs and DVD players, as well as 2011 LG Smart TVs and DVD players.

What next, press the red button and within an hour a Rightmove rep will be round, taking details & booking a viewing etc.....

Does no one feel that turning buying a home for your family into a video game somewhat patronizing and detrimental !
We all know that no matter how good a video walk round is, there is a vast difference between that and the real thing, does this app come with smellovision, tactile feedback, is it in 3d?
Take a look at Zillow [USA] for example, I have looked at the mega presentations and viewed the houses, massive difference.

    Get my drift.

Anyone who has read my previous postings is aware of exactly what I think of these property portals, unneeded parasites who have skewed the industry, bled out our profits and taken customers away from our offices.

Now these vile johnny come latelys set themselves up as the gurus of the property industry, pontificating and advising an industry they are systematically destroying.

I dont need Rightmove to tell me how my industry is performing; didn't need them 20 years ago when people used to actually call, visit the office, have a cuppa, establish a relationship and be able to look at a selection of properties. I remember when we used to sell to just one family member, they like us and the rest of the family, and the generations that follow would keep on using us.

Today they view the same property on rightmove etc... listed with umpteen agents, call everyone to see who gives the best deal; no rapport, no warmth, no customer care.

Next Rightmove etc.. will take instructions directly from vendors to site, have a fixed fee for handling the sale and kill us off completely.

    @rebel

This is still a very clever innovation from Rightmove. I for one regard this as a bit more than just another platform. It will be interesting to see when the other portals take this up. Could be a game changer

Shipside should start by making the pics on his website larger, never mind getting himself off over launching another platform.

    Keep it simple stupid.

...and lower our subs you shyster.

I don't know how he has the nerve to show his face at their crappy seminars.

This is a very, very clever idea, congratulations to Rightmove. As an earlier poster said, we might love to hate Rightmove, but they are always a step ahead of the game.

Congratulations Rightmove. Congratulations on ruining everyone's life in this country (which is a step on from just ruining estate agents) because we'll have:.

More relationship breakdowns over remote control rage
More insomnia as there's even more on tv
More RSI because of additional channel hopping
More obesity as there's even less need to move from the couch
More moving costs with the structural alterations needed so Mr & Mrs Larda**e can get hemselves out of the front door on moving day
More suicides as people can see on a big screen what they can't afford
More divorces as the big photo of the master bedroom of another house in the street shows your wife's knickers on the floor
More kids phoning Childline when they look at other properties and see what toys those kids got for Christmas
More debt collectors on your doorstep asking how you can afford that 3 metre Samsony flatscreen in the picture when you haven't made a payment on that 3 zillion% payday loan you took out
More estate agents having to explain energy efficiency ratings to buyers now they are actuall big enough to read

Rightmove, I hope you are proud of yourselves!

As much as we all love to hate Rightmove, they are certainly innovators in the industry, sadly!

Funny thing property buying ... I wonder if a real close up, high definition view of a property - taking your time - not rushing around like you do when you are viewing - will cause people to view less properties. And mean that it will be another cog in the wheel that is slowing grinding prices and transaction levels down.
