Some members of the NAEA have had a ticking off from acting chief executive Mark Hayward for being rude to staff.

What they were being rude about was not specified in the latest weekly newsletter to members – and indeed theories abound – but Hayward wrote the following, under the title of ‘Common courtesy’:

“At the recent meeting of staff at Arbon House the issue of members conduct was raised. It would appear that a small number of members find it difficult to adhere to common courtesy and decency when dealing with or speaking to staff at Warwick.

“I would ask that you are polite and courteous in the way that you treat staff in the same way as you would address and treat your own clients.

“I will not tolerate verbal abuse, rudeness, or unreasonable behaviour towards Arbon House staff who above all are here to assist and help you the members, indeed they are now instructed to refer to me immediately should such behaviour be evidenced.

“They have a job to do, experience the same frustrations as you do in their every day working life yet remain committed to providing a good service, and dealing with members in an exemplary fashion, please treat them accordingly.”
